Greetings, it’s that time again for us in the Stir network to zap you with a few sonic gems from the lab. This particular junction in Stirs incessant travels through virtual space brings none other than Stir architect Ian Funk featuring Paravoice and his vocal escapades. STIRD14 is nothing short of mind bending synthesis, haunting rhythm sections, and chalky vocals.
The title track, “Insomnio”, comes dense and eager with its dominating kick drum, Sci-Fi synth chemistry and Paravoice’s sinister allusions to sleeplessness. Continuing down the path of atmospheric space age funk, dripping with globs of sine wave tonage spasms from within the core is “One More For the Road”. Combine that with a more traditional Ian Funk pad texture on “Five Days In” and the “Insomnio” dub mix, and you possess an EP that makes the grade for knocking, bouncy and stylized techno with a promise to deny anyone their 40 winks.
