Lowran’s interest in music developed in the mid 80s hanging out at music shops when he was 10. He soon after started buying his first new wave, elektrofunk and electro-pop records. While on a trip to Berlin in 1988, he discovered electro and industrial music together with acid house and Detroit techno.
In 1995, he started mixing music while studying computer science and biology. A few years later he created his first radio show ´†Alpha 60†ª, where he defined his art through Detroit electro and Chicago acid, gradually sculpting out of his style to a definite minimal(ist) orientation. Those inclinations came to a head in 2001 with “Asymetrikk”, a radio show that assembled different moods like electronika, ambiant, click’ncuts and minimal. Asymetrikk proposed, within an hour-long music mix, a mind-opening journey, coherent yet uncompromised.
Together with some friends – “Kagnous” people mostly – he organized some of the earliest local (Marseille, FR) Minimal parties called “Los Tornados de la Diskoteka”. Then came “Playschool” and “Electric Touch”, respectively electronica/click’n’cuts and minimal house oriented parties. He was also the artist-in-residence of the “Bip-hop” label events and played at the Marseilles/Montreal Mutek.
Then he met Sam and Dave, giving rise to Sam and Dave and Lowran. That was for the record...
Today collaborating with Greg LeRoy, Lowran organizes “music for sex” parties, based in Marseilles and dedicated to the sensual mood of minimal club music. His first track was released on indigo magenta.
But seriously though, Lowran’s art is really about transforming harsh trash into a groovy device
